Emergency Management

Emergency Response

Everman ISD has implemented the Standardized Response Protocol (SRP), which provides a formal response to school-based emergencies. This classroom response enhancement is designed to help everyone involved communicate and respond effectively during critical incidents.

The Standard Response Protocol was developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation to help ensure student safety in educational settings. The SRP has been endorsed by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC), the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and the office of the Governor of the State of Texas.

Each school year, administrators, campus staff, and students receive SRP training and conduct SRP-based drills each semester and state-mandated fire drills to reinforce preparedness for emergencies. While the SRP does not replace school safety plans or programs, it does standardize the Everman ISD's approach to emergency management by providing consistent terminology and response actions during times of crisis.

The SRP is not based on specific scenarios but on how a response to any given situation will affect the overall risk. The SRP's standard language is essential because it helps to ensure that everyone involved in a school emergency is coordinated and understands each other. The SRP includes five actions: Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter, and Hold. These steps will be followed in a predictable order as an incident unfolds. Each action has its own specific set of staff and student directives that are specific to that action.

Secure

Secure

Secure is set in motion when an indirect hazard exists outside the building. Secure uses the physical facility to provide protection. The school continues to operate as usual, with staff and students brought in from the outside and perimeter doors secured. No movement occurs in or out of the school facility.

Students: Return to the inside of the building and continue with normal school activities.

Teachers: Recover students and staff who are outside the building. Protect your doors with a secure perimeter. Post signage that indicates Secure. Increase your situational awareness to identify potential dangers and take appropriate precautions. Take attendance and continue school business will continue as usual.

Parents: Please wait for updates from Everman ISD through regular communication channels. Please do not come to the school, as the school will be in Secure mode. Ensure the school has up-to-date phone numbers and information on who is authorized to pick up your student.

Lockdown

Lockdown

Lockdown occurs when there is a danger or threat inside the building. Interior security features are used to protect staff and students inside the school. All classroom doors are closed, and everyone is silent. The lights are turned off to make everyone more hidden. Barricading of doors and self-evacuation may also occur during a period of lockdown.

Students:  Move away from windows or doors to avoid being injured. Don't talk. Keep your mobile devices silent.

Teachers:  Secure the classroom door to keep the students safe. Turn off the lights. Stay away from doors or windows. Don't speak. Turn off your mobile devices. Take attendance and record the time. Wait for the first responders to open the door.

Parents: Please wait for updates from Everman ISD through normal communication channels. Please do not come to the school during a lockdown. Make sure the school has up-to-date phone numbers and information on who is authorized to pick up your child.

Evacuate

Evacuate

Evacuation is initiated when students and staff must leave the building. Everyone is calmly transitioned to predetermined evacuation gathering points. The administration will announce the type of hazard and special instructions for hazards other than fire.

Students: Bring your phone, if it’s not in a place where it needs to be retrieved. Leave your things behind. Form a single file line. Show your hands, if requested. Listen carefully for alternate instructions.

Teachers: Get the attendance roster, if safe to do so. Lead students to the evacuation location.

Take attendance and note the time upon arrival at the predetermined evacuation gathering point.

Notify campus officials of any attendance discrepancies.

Parents: Wait for updates from Everman ISD via normal communication channels.  Please do not come to the school, as most evacuations are short-term with students immediately returning to the building following a brief period of time to evaluate the hazard.  If parent reunifications at another district campus will be required, parents will be notified of the reunification location via normal Everman ISD communications channels. NOTE: Parents or guardians must bring a valid government-issued photo ID to any Everman ISD reunification site.

Ensure the school has current phone numbers and information regarding persons authorized to pick up your student.

Shelter

Shelter

Shelter occurs when it is necessary to protect oneself from tornados or hazardous materials. Shelter actions vary by hazard and may include:

  • Severe weather (move to pro-designated safe areas).

  • Hazardous materials (close doors/windows, turn off air conditioners).

  • Earthquakes (hide/take cover).

Students: Follow established safety procedures based on the hazard. Listen for possible alternate instructions.

Teachers: Should follow established procedures in order to reduce the risk of injury. Take roll, and mark the time once it is safe to do so.

Parents: Please wait for updates from Everman ISD through normal communication channels.

Please do not visit the school in the event that we are experiencing a shelter incident. If an evacuation is required following a sheltering incident and a parent reunion is required on another school district campus, the parent reunion location will be reported through normal Everman ISD communication channels. Parents or guardians must bring a valid government-issued photo ID to any Everman ISD reunion site in order to reunite with their child or ward. Make sure the school has up-to-date phone numbers and contact information for people who are authorized to pick up your child.

Hold

Hold

A Hold is issued to clear all hallways as quickly as possible. The students and staff remain in their classroom current area while school business continues as usual. A Hold can be called during a medical emergency, an urgent maintenance issue, or any situation where the hallway needs to be cleared.Students: Please stay in your classroom or current location. Continue to attend classes as usual.

Teachers: Help students and staff get back to their classrooms. Lock the classroom door. Take attendance and note the time. Continue the school's usual business until notified that the hold has been lifted.

Parents: Please do not come to the school. The Hold incidents are being resolved quickly, and students will typically be back in their normal bell schedules within minutes. Make sure the school has current phone numbers and information on who is authorized to receive your child.
